I’m struggling with how to handle my cousin’s extreme fussiness and numerous allergies, which makes things difficult for everyone. Recently, my sister hosted a family-style birthday party, and I clearly stated that we couldn’t cater to my cousin’s specific needs. My aunt thought this was unreasonable and started complaining about us being mean. Despite our heads-up, my cousin showed up, and there was nothing suitable for him due to his wheat allergy and vegan requirements—something I wasn’t prepared to accommodate. He was visibly eyeing the food, and my aunt was repeatedly asking about the ingredients, making the atmosphere tense. To avoid further issues, I told my cousin that the breads and meats were suitable for him, though there were no special dietary adjustments. He seemed to enjoy the food and left in one piece. A few days later, my cousin developed severe skin rashes, and my aunt blamed our party food. I firmly reminded her that we had warned her in advance and suggested she should have either brought her own food or not attended. My sister and I don’t feel guilty about the situation at all. Why is so so entitled and we even poke fun at her for randomly forcing strangers outside to feed her son the day after the party which resulted in the skin rashes.
