I am in marriage for 4 years and we are sexually active without any protection. Earlier this year, my wife told me she’s pregnant and we are really thrilled by it. However as we started going to see gynaecologist, the timeline seems to be off because I was away for 2 weeks and then followed by Ramadan month. So I was suspecting amiss and trying to clarify with the gynaecologist but my wife always brushed it off. Is there any way I can do a DNA test. No way I am going to put up with somebody’ else’s kid.

Yes, there are prenatal DNA tests available to determine the paternity (biological father) of an unborn baby. Here are the two main types:

Noninvasive prenatal paternity test (NIPP): This is the most common type of prenatal DNA test and can be done as early as seven weeks into pregnancy. It involves a simple blood draw from the mother and a cheek swab from the alleged father. The test analyzes fetal DNA present in the mother’s bloodstream and compares it to the DNA from the alleged father.

Invasive prenatal testing: This type of test is more complex and carries a small risk of miscarriage (around 0.5%). There are two main options:

Amniocentesis: A thin needle is inserted into the uterus to withdraw a small sample of amniotic fluid, which contains fetal cells.
Chorionic villus sampling (CVS): A small sample of tissue is taken from the placenta, which also contains fetal cells.
