Having A Phablet In 2024 For Daily Use & Iplay 60 Mini Pro Review
ROTITORIAL
Here is a link to the Alldocube Iplay 60 Mini Pro Overview
Here I shall list out my experience of using a phablet in 2024 to be my daily use device in comparison to using a phone. I will be updating this post to include future update as well of my experience with such thick, long, big… device.
On reasons why I chosen this phablet is because there is not really much decent phablets around the 7.5 inch to 8.5 inch zone. You either have HD resolution for screen or crippled ram like 4GB only. So this phablet seems to hit most of the requirements without a bombastic price for me and considering that Lazada actually provide a full year insurance coverage that includes accidental damage, liquid damage, and theft or robbery.
It comes with the simple box but well packaged and protected by very thick long air foam, inside you find a 20w charger, a simple device explanations, white USB cable (USB A to Type C), the flip cover and of course, the grand device 8.4 inch itself.
DAY ONE
It arrived, my 8.4 inch phablet that I will be using it for daily use. The Alldocube Iplay 60 Mini Pro is quite a big device but not too big that one hand cannot handle. I certainly won’t be typing with one hand. Battery life is pretty good considering it was above 90% and I used it to install tons of apps and configuration. It lasted me from noon till midnight with around 30% extra to boot.
Most important test for a Malaysian is banking and finance apps, as tested, Touch’N’Go and Public Bank apps works just fine.
DAY TWO
The vanilla android feeling is really surreal, this coming from using Xiaomi and Samsung phones which has pack loads of features which as missing and have to rely on third party app to compensate. To some it may not be a bad thing, less bloat OS perhaps. To me, it feels very clean especially on a 8.4 inch phablet but missing some conveniences here and there. Base android is so based that it doesn’t even have an QR code scanner built into its camera. I decided to use Google Lens to compensate for it and it works.
It does take some time getting used to especially taking out and putting back into my pocket. It is huge, there is no argument about that.
There is a few things that I like about it is that double tap to wake and double tap to lock, the face unlock is pretty fast too. One of the downsides is that the brightness even at minimum is quite bright. So if you are going to use this in a dark room, it is going to be pretty bright.
The speakers are surprisingly better than I thought and with stereo, watching movies, youtube, and anime is very nice. You also get minimal black borders on top and bottom due to its screen ratio.
WEEK ONE
The GPS works quite well and lets just say it was fun to drive around using this. I also been using this to pay for various things using the Touch’N’Go app and it works just as well.
Your usual handphone stand won’t work on this… well that is to be expected.
MONTH ONE
It has been great for media usage. Though in some rare occurrence it does lag, at first I thought it was the webpage but it is not. This can be solve with just a restart. It happens only like once a few weeks so it is kind of rare.
Payment with apps especially for QR scanning works well, the camera is still left to be desired and unable to scan QR if its dark.
I installed a budget 240GB micro SD card and it works. Watching videos from the micro SD also is fine without any lag, it works surprisingly fast though it is only filled to around 30GB right now.
What I would have like in next version or improvement:
1. A fingerprint sensor, I would trade away face unlock for fingerprint on the side if possible.
2. Reduce the screen ratio to 16:9 if it means reducing the screen size to around 7.7 to 8.0 inch. Perfect for media consumption and scrolling since these days we are scrolling vertically most of the time.
