About two weeks ago, while baking in the kitchen, I heard a loud thud from the upstairs apartment—it clearly came from my elderly neighbor. Though my heart raced with concern, I was too occupied in my baking and convinced myself it was likely nothing serious, or perhaps she had simply dropped something. As days went by, I realized I hadn’t seen her since or heard any sounds from her unit. She seldom left her apartment, only for appointments or groceries, always with her family’s help. Now, her absence is deeply unsettling, and my guilt for not acting sooner is overwhelming. I regret not prioritizing her well-being and not taking any action. Unfortunately, I don’t have any contact information for her family. So yesterday I did went upstairs to peek but I don’t see anything unsettling or smell anything bad. Hopefully she’s alright.
