I used to work part time with this store during my high school holidays. Back then I didn’t know that epf / socso was compulsory. The owner always paid me in cash for my monthly pay and I didn’t give it much thought. After that during my university term breaks, I went back to the same job as I really enjoyed working there and also that’s when I know my rights as an employee. I didn’t want to break our relationship since I’ve known the owner for years, he told me it’s an extra burden for him and he’s willing to pay me extra RM50 a month as compensation for not submitting epf/socso. Since then, I’ve been pocketing the extra tips and money left by customers. It’s not a lot, but at least it’s something. Thinking of it now, I still felt I’ve been shortchanged. Is there anyway I can go back and report him to the authorities without exposing myself? Should I go and do it? The business is pretty much still going and survived Covid era.
